AMERICAN CLASSICAL MAHOGANY CARD TABLE. Circa 1830-50 with rotating flip top Item # 801HXG27P.

This fine American Classical card table features a pair of full width planks of mahogany with integral molded ends that rotate 90 degrees and flip open on original brass hinges to create a broad card playing surface. Typical of the form, the apron is a finished box for storing game parts, accessible only by rotating the top.

An attractive figured veneer is employed in the cove profile of the apron, flanked on either end with thin brass stringers. Tight and precise dovetails lock the back of the frame together, this raised over a thick tapered column over sabre legs with thick acanthus carvings of the solid terminating in cast animal paw castors. The legs dovetail into the thick column, this being yellow pine veneered in mahogany. It remains in fine condition with a beautifully refinished surface.

26 7/8 H x 36 W x 18 D; 36 D when fully opened. Surface refinished, top with some light checking/texturing to shellac. Minor surface blemishes here and there throughout, as expected. One game compartment underside panel added. Bracket affixed inside of one leg for strength, one leg with an old repair.

Overall remaining in very good original condition throughout. Is a family business founded by Andrew and Grace Silla in 2009 after years of collecting. The full service shop is now located in the heart of the Cumberland Valley in the historic downtown of Shippensburg, Pennsylvania.

Our 9000 square foot gallery is home to a large collection of carefully curated period furniture, works of art and interesting objects from the late 18th century through the middle of the 20th century. Our company specializes in French bronze sculpture from the last quarter of the 19th century, particularly the Animaliers, and we have a focus on the Barbizon period in fine art. We carry a large selection of fine furniture from the whole spectrum of periods; we are always seeking out pieces that are unusual in form, objects that are stand alone strikepoints for the room, items created by interesting designers and makers, or pieces that are just difficult to find. The common thread in all of our objects is the unwavering standard of quality, originality and excellence in form. Each object is individually selected for these attributes, restored where appropriate, balancing pure originality against a clean presentation in today.
