Vintage Leather Covered Walnut Card / Game Table & 4 Cane & Leather Chairs-VG

This card /game table and set of chairs were given to my in-laws in the early 1950s. The quality of construction is still evident. The table top is 32" by 32" and stands 29-3/8 in height. The brown leather table top is 27-3/4 square and has a black stitching-like design pressed into the outer edges that has a nice visual effect next to the wood.

Similarly there as a golden colored pattern pressed into the leather that forms a tasteful border trim near the leather's edge, The chair seats are covered in padded leather that matches the table top except there are no designs. The chair seats are 17-1/2 in height. The table and chairs are all solid wood in construction. I believe that all of the wood is black walnut possibly mahogany?

With the only exception being the seat bottoms which are plywood. As for condition: First, all of the pieces are structurally sound... Indeed more sound than most new furniture today. In the photos you can see the number, size, and manner of usage of the bolts and screws that hold all the legs strongly in place. Perhaps the fine job of stretching and fastening the seats' leather on the undersides is also visible.

The woven cane backs on all of the chairs is tight and undamaged. Three wooden screw-hole cap plugs are missing as can be seen in one photo.

They are readily available and can be stained to match... And second, the overall appearance of the set is beautiful. However it would benefit from a good polishing as well as the application of a leather cleaner and conditioner. The set has seen very limited use for the last 20-25 years but it has been used.

Consequently upon close inspection it does have a number of dings, scratches, marrings, blemishes etc. But no more (actually less) than one would expect from normal wear and tear. Certainly there are no major defects. Depending on your preferences for the appearance of the wood finish you could: (A) leave as is; (B) touch up the scratches and nicks; or (C) entirely refinish it... The underlying wood could justify that rather extreme choice...

And last but not least: it is very comfortable to sit on these chairs and at this table. Thanks for reading and looking at the photos.
